ZORBZALL® Bulk Super Absorbent Polymer

Sodium polyacrylate is a cross-linked superabsorbent polymer (SAP) capable of absorbing and retaining large amounts of water and other aqueous liquids. ZORBZALL® is supplied as a bulk sodium polyacrylate for industrial liquid solidification, wastewater and sludge treatment, spill management, remediation, and other applications where free liquid needs to be converted into a manageable solid or semi-solid material.

The amount of sodium polyacrylate required depends on the composition of the liquid being treated. Clean water generally requires less polymer than wastewater, sludge, brine, or liquids containing dissolved salts, minerals, oils, chemicals, or other contaminants. Because absorption performance varies by waste stream, RNR Environmental recommends testing a representative sample to determine the appropriate ZORBZALL® dosage before full-scale treatment.

Sodium polyacrylate can absorb substantially more water relative to its own weight than conventional bulk absorbents such as sawdust, clay, or other mineral-based materials. In suitable water-based applications, this can reduce the quantity of absorbent added and the resulting volume and weight of material that must be handled or transported. Actual performance and economics depend on the liquid being treated, contaminant levels, disposal requirements, and the cost of the absorbent, so testing the specific waste stream is recommended.

Yes. Dissolved salts, minerals, acids, bases, oils, solvents, and other contaminants can affect the absorption capacity of sodium polyacrylate. High concentrations of dissolved salts and other ions generally reduce the amount of liquid the polymer can absorb compared with clean water. Because industrial wastewater, brine, sludge, and process liquids can vary considerably in composition, ZORBZALL® dosage should be determined by testing a representative sample of the actual liquid before full-scale treatment.

ZORBZALL® is supplied in bulk for industrial and commercial applications in 2,205 lb supersacks, with one supersack per pallet. A full truckload contains 19 pallets, or approximately 41,895 lbs. Orders are available from individual pallets to multi-pallet and full truckload quantities. RNR Environmental can quote material and freight based on the number of pallets required and the delivery destination.

Bulk sodium polyacrylate pricing depends on quantity, availability, freight and delivery location. Larger orders can reduce material cost per pound, but price per pound alone does not determine the lowest treatment cost. The amount of absorbent required, final waste weight and volume, hauling costs and disposal fees can have a much greater impact on total project cost. RNR Environmental can evaluate ZORBZALL® dosage and cost per treated gallon or ton to help determine the most economical approach.
